Reasonable Accommodations

While we work with disability every day, being considered an “employee with a disability or impairment” is a different process than what we are used to as CSRs, CSs, and CTEs. Instead of following the Social Security Act to define disability, employees with various medical conditions can look to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for reasonable accommodation (RA) protections. Employees with medical conditions like chronic pain conditions, mental health conditions, or even chronic migraines, are usually entitled to on-the-job accommodations if necessary, to allow the employee to perform the full scope of their job duties. RAs are appropriate for employees with apparent disabilities and hidden disabilities, and allowable reasonable accommodations are wide ranging.
